Productive SAP systems are perpetually subject to pressures in- and outside the company. Employee fluctuation, technical developments, upgrades and decentralized activities associated with longtime system operation make it increasingly difficult to stay abreast of changes. Being aware of your as-is situation, i.e. how your system is currently being used, is the only way to keep your eye on system dynamics and manage them effectively.
In consequence, many systems evolve more and more to “black boxes” whose configuration and business usage are only partially familiar to a handful of users within the company. But it’s precisely this quantification of the manyfaceted productive SAP system aspects that is such a challenge to achieve. You have to consider: What needs to be gauged? Which parameters indicate usage and which ones point to change?
We recommend you conduct a broadscope analysis of your SAP system’s as-is situation once a year to obtain a fact base for all SAP-IT activities.
