Wuerzburg/New York. Yesterday in New York, SAP’s worldwide intro-duction of its new product, SAP Business ByDesign, advertised under the code name A1S, was occasion for Prof. Dr. Rainer Thome’s invitation to the event, as IBIS Prof. Thome AG is not only among the first pilot customers, but has also played a major role in helping shape this small business software’s structure and completely new method of imple-mentation.

Yesterday, September 19, 2007, in New York, SAP AG officially introduced its new software, SAP Business ByDesign, conceived specially for small and medium-sized businesses. It was designed as a service-oriented solution based on the most advanced architectural concepts for user software. The main impetus behind it are the tools and methods incorporated into the structure for implementation and continuous adaptation to the user’s specific requirements. Wuerzburg’s IBIS Prof. Thome AG inspired the idea and helped develop it. The company considers itself a “think tank”, dividing its time between scientific research at the university and application of these methods and tools in its everyday business. The results benefit the students as well as IBIS’s cooperation partners in the economy.

For over three years, an IBIS team, directed by executive of finances, Dr. Andreas Hufgard, has worked to develop a highly advanced procedure for SAP. This new procedure provides an even more efficient and cost-effective method for factoring in user companies’ needs than is currently offered by any other software in the world. The conceptual fundament for this novel strategy has been being developed through scientific research and doctoral dissertations for over ten years now at the University of Wuerzburg; in the software scene it stands for Continuous System Engineering, the Wuerzburg way to enhanced utilization of standard software with concurrent individual adaptation to practical needs.

Wuerzburg/New York. In New York yesterday, Prof. Dr. Rainer Thome re-presented IBIS Prof. Thome AG, taking part in the official announcement of SAP’s most recent small business software. The Wuerzburg research firm counts among the first pilot customers for the SAP Business By-Design, and implements this software in its business processes both in practice and in a highly exceptional research environment.

In New York yesterday, September 19, 2007, SAP AG introduced its new software, SAP Business ByDesign, specially developed for small to medium-sized businesses. It was designed as a service-oriented solution based on the most advanced architectural concepts for user software. Selected users tested SAP Business ByDesign in a pilot phase. Among these users was the Wuerzburg IBIS Prof. Thome AG, one of the first customers to implement the recent innovative product.

“This was not just any ordinary software implementation,” comments IBIS’s executive of scientific research, Dr. Andreas Hufgard. “We had two separate teams participating in the pilot project. The “practical team” received instructions to conduct the project in the usual way and had no previous knowledge of SAP Business ByDesign. The SAP Business ByDesign-experienced “evaluation team” examined and analyzed the implementation progress. Our objective was to assist SAP, with whom we’ve been working on this project since 2004, in rounding off the technological, business and methodological innovations.”

“Ultimately, the conditions necessary for its productive implementation were that SAP Business ByDesign be configurable to specific customer requirements and operate stably”, explains IBIS’s executive of finances, Dr. Wolfgang Walz, under whose direction the “IBIS practical team” adapted the SAP Business ByDesign to the company’s individual needs. Since Wednesday, September 19,2007, IBIS employees have been using SAP Business-by-Design effectively in their daily work, applying it to process customer inquiries, track projects or manage personal data. Between now and January 2008, additional implementation packages will gradually be activated, in order to handle all major processes in service companies in an integrated manner and utilize the advantages only software can provide.

As representative of IBIS Prof. Thome AG, Prof. Dr. Rainer Thome (chairman of the supervisory board and chairholder at the University of Wuerzburg), attended the product launch in New York yesterday.

SAP has involved IBIS Prof. Thome AG since March 2004 in its development of the new software. In particular, the adaptability and configurability of the solution – known as Business Configuration – are based on methods and tools developed by IBIS Prof. Thome.

IBIS Prof. Thome presents "RBE Plus for ARIS" at the ARIS ProcessWorld in Berlin

Wuerzburg – The Wuerzburg-based research and consulting company, IBIS Prof. Thome AG, went “on...

Wuerzburg – The Wuerzburg-based research and consulting company, IBIS Prof. Thome AG, went “on location” for the first time with their own booth at the ARIS ProcessWorld trade fair. In addition to the automatic in-tegration of RBE Plus Analysis results to the SAP Solution Manager, suc-cessfully tried and tested in numerous projects, IBIS introduced its brand new analysis capability “RBE Plus for ARIS” to the attending guests. This tool empowers customers with a direct depiction of active customer-spe-cific processes in ARIS for the SAP NetWeaver.

For quite some time now, the SAP Solution Manager has become imperative for SAP users. Only with the help of its integrated component, the Maintenance Optimizer is it possible to download the necessary upgrade and maintenance packages from the SAP platform. IBIS’s analysis “RBE Plus for the SAP Solution Manager”, is able to counteract the often immense costs and implementation effort involved. This is achieved by transferring the RBE Plus Analysis results to the SAP Solution Manager with the aid of an interface provided by SAP. IBIS Prof. Thome AG’s RBE Plus en-ables you to analyze the usage of productive SAP systems in advance.

This time-tested analysis capability and the “Business Process Excellence” approach were greeted with avid enthusiasm by all who attended the specialist and user con-ference this year on June 14-15, at the Maritim Hotel in Berlin. Almost more popular still, was the recently developed analysis “RBE Plus for ARIS”.

The results obtained by RBE Plus Analysis concerning the degree of usage of master data, processes and process steps within an SAP system are imported via an XML interface directly into ARIS for the SAP NetWeaver. This process enables a cus-tomer-specific process model (As-Is Model) to be constructed, while the SAP So-lution Manager’s Business Process Repository is enlisted as a reference model.

“RBE Plus for ARIS’s ‘outstanding criterion’ is the fact that it not only examines the use of business processes and business steps, it also shows their frequency, and allows you to transfer these statistics directly into ARIS for the SAP NetWeaver. This standard of knowledge makes it possible to identify immediately which business pro-cesses need to be restructured or simplified and to what extent,” says Dr. Wolfgang Walz, executive board member of IBIS Prof. Thome AG.

Since the Blueprint contains all unused elements of the SAP Reference Model as well, it’s easy to create a To-Be Model along with its future business processes from the As-Is Model. A considerable advantage of direct integration is that the customer is instantly bestowed with an objectively evaluated process model and is thus able to save himself the enormous manual modeling work otherwise required.

Wuerzburg/Germany. The RBE Plus Role Analyzer from IBIS Prof. Thome AG has been extended with user-specific analyses and enhanced with intelligent and practical evaluations. By means of the new “RBE Plus User/Role Analysis” it is now possible to investigate user activities, au-thorisations, and role assignments. This enhanced capability has been available since May 2006, and will enable active license management or causation-effective cost distributions.

Innovations from IBIS Prof. Thome AG enable SAP customers to utilize a key indicators report as well as detailed evaluations as part of Role Analysis. The report quantitatively und qualitatively processes and summarises the core data on use and assignment classification of individual and composite roles. By means of a role que-ry database, the customer also has the possibility of analysing individual problems. The three levels, key indicators, detail evaluations, as well as individual investiga-tions, enable an integrated analysis of roles.

Furthermore, IBIS Prof. Thome AG recognised at an early stage the requirement for extended user-related evaluations in projects with customers and partners, and therefore to the more detailed Role Analysis was added a User Profile Analysis which also takes into account the protection of employee-related data.

As well as “Usage” and “Efficiency” Analysis, the User Profile Analysis also includes the “Business Profile” and “Security Checks” components.

Starting from an analysis of the activities and authorisations in the “Usage Analysis”, which allows a comprehensive overview into the actual use of your system taking into account existing system authorisations, e.g.:

“Which users were active during the period of analysis, or were inactive in spite of authorisation, or

have never signed on to the system?”,

the “User Profile Analysis” allows a user-related view which through anonymity can conform to the data protection guidelines.

The use of “Security Checks” allows investigation of selected critical activities and authorisations taking into account the requirements of internal financial standards or of the “Sarbanes-Oxley Act”, and answers questions on the use of these activities. For example, this analysis enables a check on the people who carry out critical transaction combinations (segregation of duties).

By means of the “Business Profile” a business application-specific evaluation of the activities is carried out. The assignment of users to departments such as Accounting or Purchasing takes place on the basis of their actual transaction and report uti- lisation. This makes it possible for existing authorisations and requirements of cur- rent use to be compared, and adaptations to be made if required.

On the other hand, the “Efficiency Analysis” makes a contribution to checking the extent to which single processes and transactions are being used efficiently. Not only the rates of change per posting, but also the relationships between dialogue steps and postings or between dialogue steps and number of documents are eva- luated.

“Only when you can make the connection between the actual activities of your users and existing authorisation levels, can you recognise requirements and take the ne-cessary action,” says Dr. Wolfgang Walz, CFO of IBIS Prof. Thome AG.

IBIS Prof. Thome AG is currently presenting today’s advances and the functions of RBE Plus, in particular the RBE Plus User/Role Analysis at its booths at “SAP TechEd 2006” in Las Vegas (USA), “DSAG Annual Congress 2006” in Leipzig (Germany), and “Managing SAP Projects 2006” in Orlando (USA). SAP customers are invited to live demos at these events.

Substantial cost reduction in SAP Solution Manager Projects with RBE Plus

Wuerzburg/Germany. As of May 2006, cost and time investment for implementation and upgrade projects...

Wuerzburg/Germany. As of May 2006, cost and time investment for im- plementation and upgrade projects has been drastically reduced for SAP customers, when use of the SAP Solution Manager Version 4.0 is combined with RBE Plus analysis. This has been made possible by an XML interface which transfers RBE Plus analysis results to the SAP Solution Manager. RBE Plus from IBIS, either utilized as a service or as a licensed product continues to add significant value for SAP customers, and customers have reported labor and consulting savings of 35% or more, compared with manual blueprinting efforts.

SAP AG and IBIS Prof. Thome AG have made another giant step in their cooperative development , namely the recently released capability of linking the SAP Solution Manager 4.0 to results of RBE Plus analysis. The release of the new “RBE Plus for SAP Solution Manager 4.0“ now makes automatic evaluation of business processes possible not only for the SAP Solution Manager 3.2, but for the Version 4.0 as well.

Applying this technology enables rapid acceleration of implementation and upgrade projects using the SAP Solution Manager. Even creating templates from existing SAP systems becomes much more streamlined. Experience from the first 15 projects shows the amount of time and effort needed to correctly model the processes used in the SAP Solution Manager when appropriate IT solutions are not used. “Modeling 165 active processes manually requires more than 44 person days on average”, says Andreas Hufgard, CEO of IBIS. Compared to this manual approach, the initial set up of the process model using “RBE Plus for SAP Solution Manager” allows the customers to complete the modeling exercise with only 8-10 person days. “We have found that implementing RBE Plus for SAP Solution Manager helped our first customers to save up to 75 percent of their time and effort”, confirmed Hufgard.

The RBE Plus technology determines those business processes actively used in your productive SAP systems automatically. These results are imported through a stan- dard SAP XML interface to an existing SAP Solution Manager project. All analysis results from the customers productive SAP system are mapped against SAP’s Bu-siness Process Repository (BPR). This enables IBIS Prof. Thome AG to automa-tically create an individualized process model in SAP Solution Manager based on the analyzed system (blueprint) by using the original BPR content of SAP. The XML in-terface was developed jointly between SAP AG and IBIS.

Another advantage of this type of import is that the elements copied to the project-specific blueprint can be upgraded at any time. This means that the SAP Solution Manager’s comprehensive upgrade and comparison functions can be used for the imported process model, once integration from RBE Plus has been completed. This is an absolute necessity for anyone, who wants to perform a release upgrade using SAP Solution Manager. It’s also required when you receive a new SAP content re-lease providing additional or adapted information for individual structure elements.

“RBE Plus for SAP Solution Manager is the ideal way to achieve an automatic pro-cess model verified with live data from your production system. Quality can also be improved dramatically with our additional reports”, explains Dr. Hufgard.

IBIS is currently presenting its latest RBE Plus developments and functions at its booths at the SAP TechEd 2006 in Las Vegas (USA), DSAG Annual Congress 2006 in Leipzig (Germany) and “Managing SAP Projects 2006” in Orlando (USA). SAP cus- tomers are invited to live demos at these events.

Wuerzburg – Sept. 08, 2005 – IBIS Prof. Thome AG today announced it has developed an efficient service which analyzes the SAP R/3 solution and writes the results to SAP Solution Manager: RBE Plus 2005.

IBIS’s RBE Plus 2005 is capable of identifying the processes currently “really used” within the system landscape via usage analysis and integrating the results (auto- matically) into the SAP Solution Manager, activating the customer-specific processes in the SAP Solution Manager Business Process Repository (BPR), a process referred to as “scoping”. RBE Plus 2005 also offers further analysis options for almost any project based on productive SAP solution-based systems.

SAP Solution Manager is a centralized, robust, end-to-end application management solution. It empowers companies to implement, operate, monitor, and support their SAP solutions.

“With RBE Plus 2005, users can combine the SAP Solution Manager with a compre- hensive RBE Plus Usage Analysis to jump-start the customers business blueprinting,” according to Dr. Wolfgang Walz, member of the Board of Directors at IBIS Prof. Thome AG.

In addition to the classic RBE scenarios “Follow-Up Documentation” and “Situation Analysis,” users can conduct more complex analyses such as “Harmonizing System Landscapes,” “Checking Target Concepts” or “Process Improvement.” The RBE Plus operation most highly in demand at present is an analysis of the actual degree of system use prior to a release upgrade or the process of identifying the potential of a new release.

IBIS is currently presenting its latest RBE Plus developments and functions at its booths at SAP TechEd ’05 in Boston (USA) and the DSAG Annual Congress 2005 in Bremen (Germany). At both conferences, users of SAP solutions can see for them- selves, based on live demos, the capabilities of RBE Plus.

With its official status as “SAP Content Partner“ – worldwide – for RBE Plus Services and Products, IBIS has advanced to a preferred Content Partner for the development of business-analytic content for SAP solutions.

The Reverse Business Engineer and the wealth of content provided in IBIS’s RBE Plus facilitate the analysis of productive SAP solutions (as of SAP R/3 Version 3.0f) based on technical Basis and business administrative aspects. The use of transac- tions, enhancements, customizing, master and process data can be identified and evaluated.

Compared with RBE 2.0 made available in 2001, IBIS in particular, urged on the content-related development of RBE check steps. The knowledge base has been ex-tended in over 250 projects from approx. 300 to more than 12,000 check steps for SAP Business Suite, achieving profitable use in a wide range of cases.

“Concerning upgrade projects, the most recent RBE Plus Content for mySAP ERP ECC 5.0 and the content release 140 for the SAP Solution Manager can significantly reduce the time needed to conduct preparatory situational and “clean up” analyses.
