Based on the known RBE Plus analysis, PPA is a state-of-the-art business pro-cess analyzing tool, which enables the user to analyze the processes whether they are well-formed or not and to investigate further potentials. By doing so, PPA contri-butes to the philosophy of the forward business improvement. 

For ensuring a solid analysis of the process throughput and the service quality, the investigation should focus on exceptions (like interruptions or media-brakes) in the process flow. To put it in a nutshell, the following questions should be investigated: 

• When do exceptions appear? Do they follow a trend?
• Which business processes do have significantly more exceptions?
• Are there more exceptions when individualized process steps are executed?
• Which processes do have a high rate of cancellations?
• Which processes are affected by changes?

At the end of the day, a low number of exceptions is an important key figure for a high service quality of a process. 

PPA allows a structured, automatic and dynamic analysis of  the existing SAP processes within one company. The innovation of PPA is in the form of the analysis: it does not represent (other than the already existing analysis tools)  a static as-is survey of dynamic data of the SAP system. In fact, the information flow within different processes (pipelines) is visualized and is classified according to diverse cri-teria (regular processes, processes with exceptions). 

The pipeline process model is a service-oriented approach, which correspondents with the demands of the new eSOA Architecture of the SAP.
