Many companies are vigorously promoting the technical implementation of SAP R/3. Now they find themselves faced with the difficult task of setting the numerous para- meters in such a way as to best achieve company objectives, and not (very possibly) to interfere with them. Only if this is accomplished successfully will it be possible, for example, to decrease capital commitment, improve lead times, better adhere to schedules as well as achieve greater flexibility in Production.
The authors explain the individualized customizing of the SAP R/3-PP (Production Planning) MRP parameters and demonstrate their effects, interconnections and side-effects. Instructions are provided for requirements analysis and configuration for the area of MRP in Production Planning and Sales. Experts and managers from Production, Logistics and Purchasing receive guidance on how to select the para- meters so strategically as to accentuate their company’s special assets and objec- tives. Controllers are given tools to help them accompany parameterization from a business administrative view-point and to increase the investment in SAP R/3 to a greater extent than would be possible were they merely to follow general re- commendations and rules of thumb.
Numerous tips on topics such as safety stock and forecasting procedures, not only apply to SAP R/3, but to other PPS systems too, provided they are based on the same methods.
The 3rd Edition includes an additional chapter which demonstrates how you can use requirements navigation to set the SAP-R/3 parameters to your advantage.
